Attendance Policy
Teachers are required to take accurate attendance daily and enter attendance digitally by 9 am.
Students are not permitted to take attendance.
Communicate to families: If a student is absent in your class, the child is to return to school with a doctor’s note and/or a note from the parent explaining the child’s absence. Student absence notes are sent to the main office.
If a student is absent for two days, the classroom teacher is to call home and document the time, date, and who they spoke with, inquiring about the student’s absence. Teachers must speak with a legal guardian, leaving a voicemail message is not sufficient. Class DoJo can be used for the same purpose. Outreach by the classroom teacher to families of NO SHOWs is required.
Whether paper or digital Attendance rosters are LEGAL documents: Do not incorrectly complete attendance rosters. As you go through your class roster, read each child’s name aloud, greet them with a warm smile, and make eye contact with them. Train your students to respond with a greeting and eye contact to avoid errors in marking absent students present and present students absent. If an error is made, correct the error. All late students’ attendance is to be updated by 11 am each day to avoid inaccurate robot calls to families.
